Our vision is finally coming to life. Emily and I have been dreaming about starting a blog, focused on sharing a meal with those who are less fortunate for a very, very long time. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago, that we stopped procrastinating and started our new journey in the world of blogging. Writing, eating and helping people out, is a passion that we both share. Thank you to all of our readers, we truly hope you enjoy our first blog post!

Oh downtown Atlanta! You have so much to offer. If you are hungry while strolling around downtown, or studying at Georgia State; there is no reason why your hunger should last! The variety of food is expanding each day, truly adding to the diversity of the Atlanta food scene. On this particular day, Emily and I were hungry for a sandwich. Sounds simple, but we were not in the mood for any ordinary sandwich, we wanted something delicious! Which is exactly why we ended up at Cafe+Velo. We heard great things about the unique cafe/bike shop, so why not give it a try? We also happened to have our camera on us, so we made the decision ( THE BEST DECISION) to create our first blog post. We didn’t want just a plain old blog post though, we wanted to do what we do on a daily basis anyway, share this meal we are about to indulge in, with a special person. The special person of the day ended up being the humble, generous and very optimistic Carl!

As we approached the quaint little shop, we ran into Carl. Carl greeted us first as we walked by, and simply let out “bless you, have a good day.”                                                          We did not give him anything, or offer him a meal at this time. He was just blessing each person who passed him by. I asked Carl if he would like to share a meal with us, this man looked me in the eyes and said he would love to, but he is saving his money for a $50 breeze card. I told him it would be on us, Carl denied at first, but Emily and I insisted!

We all ordered the Cinelli croissant, with a refreshing iced coffee on the side. All I can say is wow! The sandwich was absolutely delicious! As you bite into the croissant, the light taste of crisp, fresh apples, followed by the creamy brie cheese that excites the palate and finished with a sweet hint of honey, Mmmmmmmmm! Carl informed us both that this meal was the best he has had in months! He usually either eats fast food, or goes without eating all day. We each finished every bite of our sandwich, all while sharing stories of our lives.

As we were ready to head separate ways, we promised to keep in touch with Carl. He was truly a great man and we enjoyed every minute spent with him.

If you ever have some extra time on your hands, and you plan to frequent a local restaurant, try and make some time to share it with somebody in need. We are not saying there is anything wrong with giving people cash or just buying them food. It is just when you actually sit and speak to them; you gain more insight into the life of the homeless. You make a friend. You give someone a conversation who may never talk to people.

Make sure to check out Cafe+Velo and try one of their unique sandwiches. For the best experience, take your bike to the shop and park it out front. If you do not have a bike, simply rent one from the shop inside, or rent a bike anywhere in town with RELAY!

These sanwiches are definitly worth a try while downtown or biking down the beltline. Put Cafe+Velo on the top of your list for a quick breakfast! You will not be disappointed!
